Keco Coatings Opens Second Industrial Facility

Economic impact of industrial coating facility will generate jobs and impact Indy racing community INDIANAPOLIS (November XX, 2010) — Executives from KECO Coatings announced today they have acquired a second facility for the company’s high‐performance coating operation at 1102 W. 16th Street where they plan to invest $1 million and hire 50 additional workers by 2013. The new jobs will include engineering, management, customer service and manufacturing positions with an average wage of $40,000 annually.

KECO currently employs 25 people at its downtown facility at 1030 S. Kealing Avenue. Projected sales at the second location will reach up to $3 million by 2013 bringing the total company revenue to more than $6 million. The new 40,000 square foot facility on the city’s west side is adjacent to the downtown Certified Technology Park and was previously home to Industrial Coating Services. It has two additional acres for future expansion.

“KECO’s success in Indianapolis is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and pro‐growth business climate that exists within our city,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. “Their expansion on the near Westside further confirms the attractiveness of the West 16th Street corridor for companies in the manufacturing, technology, and life sciences industries. We look forward to a long and successful relationship with KECO as their business continues to expand worldwide.”

Mike Klinge, president of KECO Coatings, acknowledged that the expansion will allow the company to capitalize on the opportunities available in the domestic and international markets it serves, as well as enhance its high‐volume coating capabilities. The company is planning to move its process development and performance racing business to the 16th Street facility by the end of 2011.

“During our search for a second location, we researched facilities in North Carolina, as well as Indianapolis,” said Klinge. “But expanding in Indianapolis outweighed other cities for many reasons. We love the excitement and energy connected to the Indianapolis Certified Technology Park, the positive feedback from the west side neighboring companies and the potential to grow our company near the most prominent racing address in the world — West 16th Street.”

The KECO Coating expansion comes on the heels of several other major job announcements for the city of Indianapolis. Just last month, Exact Target announced it was expanding and adding another 500 jobs downtown and Ascension Health announced it will open a new operations center on the city’s north side,creating 500 new jobs.
