Presented by General Tire, the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals will take place January 10-15, 2022 at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Oklahoma. Considered one of the world’s largest indoor midget car racing events, KECO is privileged to be a part of it. Once again, we are proudly sponsoring midget race car driver Dillon Welch.
Dillon’s passion for racing began at the young age of seven when he started participating in quarter midget races – a passion that has continued to fuel his racing career for the past 20 years. When Dillon hits the racetrack in January, he will have participated in a total of 10 straight Chili Bowl Nationals.
In addition to being a part-time race car driver, Dillon is a radio announcer for Motor Racing Network (MRN) and a sports broadcaster for NBC, covering NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and IndyCar Series. Dillon takes after his father, Vince Welch, who has previous experience in the racing industry and currently works for Fox Sports as an on-air announcer covering NASCAR and college basketball.
Being a part-time race car driver at such a prestigious event does present a unique challenge.
“These are some of the best race car drivers in the world, who participate in anywhere from 40 to 100 races a year, while I race two or three times a year. It puts me at a disadvantage from an experience standpoint, but I appreciate it even more if I do well. So, I keep my expectations realistic and in check,” said Dillon.
Dillon is thankful for the longstanding relationship he has with KECO as well as the critical role KECO plays in his racing career.
“KECO has been a supporter of mine from the beginning. From the first car I had, KECO has been a part of it. Mike has been a part of my racing career just about every year that I have been on the racetrack. I’m appreciative of all they’ve done,” said Dillon.
Thank you for the kind words, Dillon! Wishing you best of luck at the Chili Bowl Nationals!
